How long does an attic remodel take?
Most attic conversions run 8 to 14 weeks of construction depending on scope, dormers, and permitting. Because the work is contained to the top floor, the rest of your home stays livable throughout. We give you a realistic timeline before construction begins, and we hit it.
Will an attic bedroom be legal? What about egress?
A legal attic bedroom in New Jersey needs a code-compliant egress window or door, minimum ceiling heights, and proper heating. We design the conversion around those requirements from day one and handle every permit and inspection with your municipality.
Won’t the attic be too hot in summer and cold in winter?
Not when it is built right. Modern insulation, air sealing, ventilation, and properly sized heating and cooling are the foundation of every Hofmann attic conversion. Comfort engineering comes first, finishes second.
Do I need new stairs to the attic?
Sometimes. Pull-down ladders do not meet code for living space, so a conversion needs a real stairway. If your existing stairs fall short, we design a solution that meets code while giving up as little space as possible on the floor below.
Can you add dormers or skylights?
Yes. Dormers add headroom and usable floor area, and skylights bring in remarkable light. Both involve structural and roofing work that our in-house team designs and builds as part of the same project, under the same contract.
